Harold Ford out of touch with Tennesseans
I see FancyFord.com for what it is . . . funny. But, others don’t quite see it that way. Look, I would never try to justify indiscretions by Republicans . . . or their taste in cigars. But, that is not what this critique of fancyford.com is about. Besides, this website merely dredges up Republicans who are no longer in office as a comparison to the antics of Harold Ford. I think fancyford.com does a good job of telling who Harold Ford really is. If these are the facts, voters are entitled to know about them. Voters are entitled to know that he spends $2,549 for Armani suits while professing to be a public servant championing the causes of the poor and middle class. People are entitled to know that Ford spends thousands of dollars on lavish hotels. And, when you get into the numbers, people are entitled to know that nearly half of his campaign contributions are coming from out-of-state, that Harold Ford is the king of PAC money, and that Washington, D.C., New York City, and Chicago are listed in the top 5 areas for contributions to Harold Ford (not Nashville, Knoxville, Chattanooga, Jackson, and Memphis!). One of these facts alone does not tell the story. But, collectively, it tells me that Harold Ford is completely detached from the average Tennessean.
Harold Ford became a Congressman the year he graduated from law school. He failed the Tennessee bar exam, and he has YET to spend one day as a lawyer. Fancy Ford has never held a job outside of public office. This is not an attack. It is just fact. He has no idea what the values of Tennessee are. He is just another product of the exclusive Washington boys school, St. Albans. Tennessee does not need another St. Albans grad as a United States Senator.

JB, thanks for the update. I got those numbers off opensecrets.org. I’ll look into that.

This is exactly what Tennessee republicans need to be doing — informing fellow Tennesseans about Ford; not attacking other republicans. No matter which candidate you support as the republican nominee, we all should focus our efforts on Ford.

The Republicans love retaliating against those who speak out against their failed choices by viciously and falsely attacking those people.
This is yet another example of that.
However, they are not going to get away with it this time.
Harold Ford Jr. represents a better future for all Tennesseeans and the Republicans know that.
Attacks like these on the Congressman will not stand because the people of Tennessee’s desire for change carries far more weight than any attack the Republicans can issue.
We will not stand up for it!

Chris D. Jackson, what “attacks” are you talking about? Is the truth an “attack”? What do you object to? Please be specific. Also, what are “failed choices”? I can’t make heads or tails of your comment. Thank you. Please elaborate.

You could have done better than the lame “limosine liberals” attack, on a FORD of all people. Only white people think that the Ford constituency begrudges their wealth. Arguing that wealth precludes someone from being a “public servant championing the causes of the poor and middle class” is incredibly weak and short sighted, not to mention a logical fallacy. It also begs the question, do the very many rich and wealthy republicans only champion the causes of the rich and Enron executives?

Chris and Gandolph…did you read what Phil wrote: Your boy can’t even pass the Tennessee Bar Exam. I guess St. Albans, UPENN, and Michigan pedigree don’t get you very far. Last time I checked, TN has like an 80% pass rate on the Bar. Many equate bar passage to intelligence.

wwb3, you’ve obviously never been to law school. Plenty of dumb asses and people with a C average from their college in the top of my class, right next to the summa cum laude folks. And clearly, those posh institutions got Ford pretty far. You have seen the fancy ford web site, have you not? Damn, that’s what I would call “making it.” Who needs the bar exam? You?

Let’s clarify why Harold Ford “made” it, Gandalph. I don’t know many Congressmen who - because of dear old dad - were given a Congressional seat for a graduation gift before they ever held any type of job. Wow, I know of one.

i am an independant and planned to vote for ford until i found out that al gore endorsed him. if al gore thinks he is the man, then he can’t be because gore is the dumbest individual to ever hold an office. it doesn’t bother me that ford wears expensive clothes or stays in ritzy hotels, because i defy anyone besides to find a politician that isn’t in it for the money except ross perot (who was already rich). it isn’t a bad thing, but it’s a career, just like a doctor, you get wealthy and help people(hopefully). i think he is an intelligent guy, but he needs to distance himself from two things…his family and al gore

Ford has actually raised 59% of his funds outside of TN through the end of 2005 according to Political Moneyline.
