I came across this article.  Very thought provoking.  Is it possible that Obama’s Germany speech will come across like the Dukakis Tank Debacle?

Here’s why I think it is a possibility.  In both situations, candidates were going above and beyond to try to look Presidential.  Wow, 200,000 people show up in Germany to watch him.  So what?  Are they American voters?  He is running for President of the United States, right?  So, I thought. 
I do not even think this was appropriate.  It is “okay” for a Presidential candidate to go on a foreign trip to see troops in the field – particularly, when that candidate is a sitting U.S. Senator.  However, when you go out of your way to speak in a capacity that would normally be reserved for a head of state, I don’t really see that as appropriate.  In fact, it just looks “forced”.  If you have to work so hard to make yourself look credible as a Presidential candidate, you probably aren’t.
