Yet again, Congress is unable to pass legislation involving illegal immigration. I frankly don’t understand the problem here. I think that politicians see this as a political “hot potato”. But, I don’t understand why. People who have gone through the process of becoming legalized (according to polls) support some type of guest worker status or controls on illegal immigration.
It boggles my mind that there appears to be a growing acceptance in this country of the position advocated by these rallies (such as the one we had in Nashville) that we should be giving more rights to illegal immigrants. They don’t pay taxes. They do not go through the proper channels in coming to this country. To grant more rights to them would be to condone illegal activity. I fail to understand the position of those who support this stance.
But, I do agree with those individuals that say that the guest worker status does not have enough “bite”. We still need to do more to control our borders. A guest worker program without policing our borders accomplishes absolutely nothing. It is lip service to convince voters that their legislators are doing something.
