Gore for President - still???

30 March, 2008 (18:13) | Barack Obama, Al Gore, Hillary Clinton | By: Phil Ayres

Interesting article in the London Telegraph … Apparently, some Democrats are still entertaining the idea of having Gore as the Democratic Presidential nominee. Not a bad idea if you are a Democrat. Gore is no longer perceived as the perpetually political and annoyingly partisan sidekick of Bill. He is a man in his own right. Gore has proven to be a force in business and on the world stage. And, frankly, he has proven to be right about a few things. I think he would be tough for McCain to beat.

But, how do you reconcile this as a Democrat? How do you tell all of the Obama and Hillary die-hards that their votes mean nothing? It is probably the smart move. But, is it really? Would it alienate too many voters? Or, would those same voters who cast votes for Obama and Hillary embrace such a change?

Addendum to this post….. I talked with one of my dear work friends and committed Democrats this morning… her analysis was “No way.  This would never happen.  BS.  People would revolt.”  There you go.

Gore’s move of the week — Environmental Woodstock

9 July, 2007 (09:01) | Al Gore, Uncategorized | By: Phil Ayres

Well, you have to hand it to the guy… like him or hate him… Gore has truly carved out a niche for himself. And, frankly, it is very positive.

Is he or is he not going to run for President? He says no. And, I really don’t think he will. But, who knows, really? After last week’s article in the Tennessean discussing his fortune, I really just think he is fat and happy. He doesn’t want to go through the pain in the ass of pursuing something like that any more…. while dealing with all the BS of becoming President … when he can do something so large as “saving the world”.

Kudos to Gore. Kudos to all who are bringing the environment to the forefront. It is time that we all focus on it. I watched some of the concert. I found the little environmental information breaks to be informative.

But, I do hate the fact that the environment has become “that Democratic issue”. It also upsets me that some Republicans appear to be “anti-environment”. Look, we as Republicans started the EPA… we do have environmental credentials. So, for us to run from an issue and take positions that will one day sound completely absurd is … well … stupid.

I think it is time for more Republicans to take on environmental issues…. it is high-time that people who actually care about our environment and our world not be called “tree huggers” and other ridiculous names that serve the purpose of maintaining mediocrity. Now is the time for a new Republican leadership that embraces this issue … but, with a very responsible conservative approach.

What would Al Gore do to the Democratic Nomination process?

30 April, 2007 (11:57) | John Edwards, Barack Obama, Al Gore, 2008 Presidential Race, Hillary Clinton | By: Phil Ayres

Volunteer Voters states that:

The question for me is: can he find hole in this race? Hillary Clinton is pretty well ensconced and Barack Obama has proved more effective than many might have thought. In the Republican Party, there is a large cross section of grassroots conservative looking for a hero.

The Left has their hero in Barack Obama and the establishment has Clinton and Edwards, where does Al Gore fit in? Are there enough of the establishment discontented with all three of the frontrunners and is there hole in the grassroots that Gore can fill?

I would say no. Al Gore’s entry would definitely shake up this race but his nomination would not be a slam dunk. Does Gore really want to take on the Clinton Machine on his right and battle a charismatic phenomenon on his left?

I have to agree.  I, personally, do not believe that there is a “hole” for Al in this race.  Here’s why… polls have shown that Democrats are, by and large, happy with their slate of candidates, while Republicans are unhappy - for the most part.

By getting in this race so late, Al is at a huge disadvantage - money-wise.  Now, if he had jumped in 3-4 months ago, I would say that Al would be the man to beat.  But, at this point, backers are committed, a lot of cash has already been distributed.  And, not only does Al have to convince people to vote for him, but he also has to convince them WHY they need to leave the candidates that they are already happy with.  This will prove to be a huge challenge for him.

At this point, if Al gets into this race, it hurts Hillary.  I feel that the left will, most certainly, gravitate toward Barack.  Hillary has become the candidate for moderates, along with Edwards.  And, without other choices, conservative Democrats will probably go with a mixture of Hillary and Edwards.  And, then, of course, the 1% of psycho Democrats who want to bring back the Mondale years will go with Biden.  Al cuts into the Hillary-Edwards demographic.  Hillary, Al, and Edwards would split their votes, paving the way for Obama.  It would be an interesting scenario.

Gore is a bore and too late to the party

Still, people continue to speculate about Gore entering this race.  Ridiculous.  He is way too late.  We are not talking about (Bill) Clinton here.  This guy has a charisma of a wooden chair.

Statistics clearly indicate that Republicans are NOT content with their current choices.  However, polls clearly support the opposite conclusion for Democrats.  Dems are very happy with their options.  Gore doesn’t have the financial backing, at this point to mount a successful effort.  If he jumped in tomorrow, with early primaries next year, he is toast.
