This is a follow-up story about who will be running for Bryson’s seat in the Tennesean yesterday.
An article in the Tennessean today discusses Bryson’s announcement. This article does a decent job of capturing how Senator Bryson was an underdog in his senate race and how he ended up winning. Matthew White also does a good job of capturing this race for the 23rd State Senate District.
Of course, this article does address the attacks on Jim Bryson’s Marketing Research firm by Bob Tuke and others. I thought it was particularly appropriate that - as soon as Bryson declared - Tuke was already on the attack. I think that - this time - the Tennessee Democratic Party finally realizes that they have a legitimate challenger to Bredesen.
Yes, Bryson has $101,000 in his coffers at present. And, yes “Money Man” Bredesen has $4.4 million. But, allow me to remind you that the strongest force in American politics today is a strong grassroots campaign. We have the perfect candidate for such a campaign. We have a committed Reagan-conservative with an over-abundance of energy. Ideologically, people across this state can get behind a man that they know will uphold their values in the Governor’s Office.
Money is important in American politics today. However, with the growing importance of the Internet, that “money hold” on American politics is declining in importance. I have attached an article that I read in the New York Times the other day about the growing importance of the Internet in political campaigns and the decline in importance of television and conventional media. For the people who read this blog, Bryson for Governor, and other pro-Bryson blogs, you can make a difference. And, we can win this race.
A model of efficiency . . . . already online . . . go check it out.
If you haven’t had a chance, you should check out the Bryson for Governor Blog.
And, don’t forget . . . Senator Bryson is announcing his candidacy at the Hermitage Hotel this afternoon at 4:00. Also, there will be a petition signing party/cermony at 4:45 at the Williamson County Republican Party Headquarters in Franklin.
See you there.
Well, it’s confirmed. Senator Bryson will be announcing his candidacy tomorrow at 4:00 at the Hermitage Hotel. Also, there will be a petitioni signing at 4:45 at the Republican Party Headquarters in Franklin. I look forward to seeing everyone there!
All indications are that Jim Bryson is running for Governor. Clearly, people in “the know” are lined up to run against him. Tennessee Politics Blog is reporting “that Doug Grindstaff, Williamson County Republican Party Chairman and Chairman of Bush’s campaign in Williamson in 2004, picked up papers this morning to run for Sen. Jim Bryson’s State Senate seat with the assumption that Bryson will run for Governor.” Nathan Moore has a complete slate of possible candidates. And, on a less important note, John Jay Hooker is running for Senator and Governor . . . . AGAIN. He has been going down-hill quickly since he got onstage drunk and conceded his bid for Senator in the 1970s and then went belly-up in that ever-so-successful “Minnie Pearl’s Fried Chicken”. Anyone remember that one?
Some folks have recently expressed concern over Bryson’s candidacy and whether he should run for Governor. One person posted on TennesseeTalk that this decision would ruin his future in Tennessee politics. In fact, a lot of Republicans that I have talked with are concerned about Bryson’s ability to defeat Governor Bredesen.
Let me break this down . . . I agree that it is a risk. And, I admit that I am concerned about the money issue. But, Jim Bryson is a very smart man. And, if he decides to run, I am convinced that he has some quality backers. I think that there is a lot of logic to him running now.
It is no secret. Marsha Blackburn will be running in 2010. I think that Bryson realizes that it would be difficult to run against Marsha for a few reasons: A) she is a congressman. B) They are both from Williamson County. However, I think that he sees that by running now - he can do an “end run around” Marsha’s run for Governor. If Jim runs and loses, no big deal. I think he could still be the front-runner in 2010. This would be a good opportunity for him to get his name out there - in the event that both he and Marsha run in 2010 (though I don’t see that happening). After all, Bryson is well-known in Nashville. But, he is not as well-known on a statewide stage.
That being said . . . Republicans, buck-up! Jim Bryson CAN win this race. We can pull together and put a true statesman in the Governor’s Office. If people get to know Bryson, I am convinced that they will vote for him. He is the most outstanding Republican candidate in the state right now (including our Senate candidates). While I agree with those Republicans who have expressed their concern, I say “let’s fight” for Jim. “Governor Bryson” is a cause worth fighting for.
