Is John McCain really like Jesus?

19 May, 2008 (11:15) | John McCain | By: Phil Ayres

I had to laugh at this one

Columbus — Georgia Republican Party chairwoman Sue Everhart said Saturday that the party’s presumed presidential nominee has a lot in common with Jesus Christ.

“John McCain is kind of like Jesus Christ on the cross,” Everhart said as she began the second day of the state GOP convention. “He never denounced God, either.”

I can only imagine that McCain would be laughing at this one.  I can’t imagine that he has ever been compared to Jesus before… perhaps, the alternative… but, I am quite certain that NEVER Jesus.

Black Tuesday for the Conservative Movement

6 February, 2008 (10:17) | Barack Obama, John McCain, Hillary Clinton | By: Phil Ayres

At this point, I am disgusted with the options that the Republican Party has in this race.  John McCain is the great anathema of the conservative movement.  He “courts” conservatives.  Yet, his record speaks otherwise.  I cannot support him unless I see a radical change in his thought process… a change in which I would not be likely to trust.

I am absolutely in disbelief that he effectively has the nomination in the bag.  This is truly a sad day for the Republican Party.

And, I “feel dirty” when I hear McCain talk about how “you should vote for me because I am the best bet for beating Democrats in the fall”… Let me translate… because I lie in bed with Ted Kennedy and Russell Feingold and I am the closest thing to being a liberal Democrat without declaring myself to be, I think you should vote for me… because, since I am so in the middle… I stand a great chance of beating the Democrats in the Fall.

Personally, I see no difference between John McCain and Barack Obama or Hillary…. except that they are in favor of pulling out of Iraq.  Other than that, what is the difference?  Please, elaborate if you have an answer.

I really don’t know what to do.  I am starting to think that the best thing for the Republican Party would be a good ass-kicking in the Fall…and a Barack Obama or Hillary Presidency - where the Republican Party could return to its roots and rediscover its ideological origins…. as opposed to 8 years of a President who is in no way committed to conservative virtues… and effectively takes the Republican Party further away from where it should be.

I am really wrestling with this one.  I am not disappointed with the electorate.  I am disappointed in the options that the electorate has had to choose from.  Truly a sad day.

First results in at Dixville Notch

8 January, 2008 (08:50) | Barack Obama, John McCain | By: Phil Ayres

Historically, just after midnight, in NH, on the day of the primary… Dixville Notch is the first precinct to cast its votes.  The results…. McCain won with 4 votes and Obama won with 7.  Obama and McCain also won in midnight voting in Hart’s Location (population 42).

Though these polling locations are somewhat equivalent to Bucksnort, TN, I predict this is the way it will go, today.

McCain’s shaky relationship with NRLC and the decline of the “Straight Talk Express”

27 April, 2007 (09:06) | John McCain, 2008 Presidential Race | By: Phil Ayres

Though McCain is clearly the strongest pro-life candidate in this race, it is ironic that HE is the one fighting with the NRLC…. because of his position on abortion?… NOPE… but on his campaign finance position.

At issue is a provision banning ads that mention the names of candidates for public office within certain “blackout periods” ranging from 30 to 60 days before an election–if funds from corporations or unions are used to pay for the ads.

So, apparently, this “feud” is causing relations to sour “severely” between the pro-life crowd and the McCain campaign. Yet, more evidence that the McCain campaign is spiraling into oblivion. It really is ironic to see this campaign contrasted with the 2000 campaign. He was the free-talking outsider (seemingly)… which is incredibly ironic since he was the ultimate insider. Now, he is perceived as being “the man”. Pro-Iraq. Old. Fighting with Pro-lifers. Making stupid and crazy comments in public. I trace the decline back to the SNL appearance. I feel that he was at his ultimate HEIGHT at that point. It has been ALL down-hill from there. Unfortunately, his cart was tied too closely to the “Bush wagon”… which is on a hill spiraling out of control, also.
