Google finally added Nashville to Google Maps Street View.

I checked it out, today, and went for a little “drive” around town.

Ralph Emery Back on the Airwaves — Oh, the Nostalgia…

1 May, 2007 (07:52) | Nashville | By: Phil Ayres

So, Ralph Emery is back…  it does me good to see that.  When I think of Ralph, I think of growing up in Nashville.  There really are two Nashvilles… the Nashville of today… and the Nashville I grew up in.

For those of you who have been transplanted to Nashville, the Ralph Emery show used to come on from 5:30a.m.-7a.m., Monday thru Friday.  So, you would catch a little bit of it before the Today show and you had to go to school.  To tell you what it was like… I think “cornpone” would be the best word.

Outhouse races… the tootie fruttie sweethearts (little old ladies who wore bobby skirts and danced to the oldies)… the GREAT “chalk-off” (Honestly, a contest where people would throw chalk up in the air and catch it in their coat pocket)…. commercials from “D.T. McCall and sons… Carthage and Lafayette”.  For those of you, who saw the show, frequently, you know what I am talking about.  For those of you who never saw it, you probably think I am speaking some kind of redneck code.  Though it wasn’t tremendously produced, it was truly “Nashville culture” at the time.  And, frankly, I miss it… along with Ralph.  So, I am really glad to see him back on the scene.

Cheers to Ralph!  Good to have you back.
