The argument for a play-off system in college football
This is an interesting idea. It is almost December, and it is time for the annual complaining and speculation, associated with the Bowl Season.
When the BCS came into the picture, it was supposed to take care of all of the problems. It was supposed to preserve the validity of the bowl process. Has it? I think that only a few people would say that it has.
The system is broken, and it needs to be fixed. It seems to me that proponents of the BCS look to the results of each year to validate their system. Meanwhile, good logic and the need for a play-off system stand as the clearly better choice on the other side of the coin.
Bottom line, BCS proponents want to maximize revenue. It is all about money. And, I just don’t understand how anyone could come to the conclusion that a play-off system would mean less revenue for college football. The amount of hype surrounding this “tournament” would greatly surpass March Madness. This change is inevitable. And, it should happen.
The system we have now is completely unfair. How can you compare 2 teams when one has a conference championship and one does not? You can’t. But, a play-off system would resolve all of those issues and bring more money to the schools involved.
