Why Jim Bryson should run for Governor
Some folks have recently expressed concern over Bryson’s candidacy and whether he should run for Governor. One person posted on TennesseeTalk that this decision would ruin his future in Tennessee politics. In fact, a lot of Republicans that I have talked with are concerned about Bryson’s ability to defeat Governor Bredesen.
Let me break this down . . . I agree that it is a risk. And, I admit that I am concerned about the money issue. But, Jim Bryson is a very smart man. And, if he decides to run, I am convinced that he has some quality backers. I think that there is a lot of logic to him running now.
It is no secret. Marsha Blackburn will be running in 2010. I think that Bryson realizes that it would be difficult to run against Marsha for a few reasons: A) she is a congressman. B) They are both from Williamson County. However, I think that he sees that by running now – he can do an “end run around” Marsha’s run for Governor. If Jim runs and loses, no big deal. I think he could still be the front-runner in 2010. This would be a good opportunity for him to get his name out there – in the event that both he and Marsha run in 2010 (though I don’t see that happening). After all, Bryson is well-known in Nashville. But, he is not as well-known on a statewide stage.
That being said . . . Republicans, buck-up! Jim Bryson CAN win this race. We can pull together and put a true statesman in the Governor’s Office. If people get to know Bryson, I am convinced that they will vote for him. He is the most outstanding Republican candidate in the state right now (including our Senate candidates). While I agree with those Republicans who have expressed their concern, I say “let’s fight” for Jim. “Governor Bryson” is a cause worth fighting for.

how could anyone think jim bryson, although a nice man, can defeat the current governor…. he was totally beaten in his debate for the senate run by the younger, saavy, better looking younger guy… his name I have forgotten… bredeson would absolutely embarrass bryson in a debate..

Just have one thing to say about Jim Bryson. He is already in trouble before he leaves the gate.Dirty Deals……………
Earlier this year, Bryson was the target of a formal complaint filed with the Senate Ethics Committee by state Democratic Chairman Bob Tuke. No action has been taken the complaint, which contends Bryson’s business dealings with Pfizer Inc. have conflicted with his legislative duties.
Tuke said Wednesday he had received a letter from an attorney with the Senate Ethics Committee saying the complaint had insufficient information and he plans to provide more, including an affidavit from a Nashville man who attended an event involving both Pfizer and Bryson.
Bryson said “he knows nothing about it.”
The new affidavit, dated March 2, is from Jason Powell, a Nashville real estate agent who Tuke said is an active Democrat. In it, Powell says he attended an Aug. 17, 2005, gathering at a Nashville church served as host of a town hall meeting on TennCare cuts proposed by Bredesen.
Powell says Pfizer representatives also attended and were introduced by Bryson, who “endorsed” a Pfizer discount drug program described to the audience. Powell says “an underlying motive for Sen. Bryson was to use this town hall meeting forum as a business opportunity for drug companies.”
The complaint charges that Bryson supported legislation that would benefit Pfizer Inc.
